The Bronx Zoo
Why You Have To See It:
The Bronx Zoo is America’s largest urban zoo. With more than 10,000 animals divided into 650 species, they have something for everyone.

- Wild Asia Monorail: Operating on a seasonal basis (check their website for specifics), the monorail offers a great way to see the rolling habitats of tigers, pandas, elephants, and endangered species.
- Treetop Adventure: An aerial ropes course for the kids and parents, this adventure is a great way to engage in some monkey business with your family.
Practical Information:
- Park Hours: From April 1 to November 4, the zoo is open from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on weekdays and until 5:30 PM on weekends and holidays. From November 5 to March 29, the zoo is open daily from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The last entry to the zoo is 45 minutes prior to park closing, and animal exhibits close 30 minutes prior to park closing.
- Parking: All-day parking is available for $20 for cars and $23 for buses. Weekend preferred parking at Fountain Circle is available for $27.
- Rentals: Single strollers can be rented for $13 and double strollers for $18. Wheelchairs are available for free with a $20 refundable deposit. Electric convenience vehicles can be rented for $45 at the Southern Boulevard entrance only, with a $100 refundable deposit.
Make Sure You:
Bring good walking shoes and a stroller for the kiddos (and your spouse, too, if need be). The zoo is 265 acres and is an all-day event. Check the website to see what fun new things might be happening when you go, to make sure you pick the right day.
The Bronx Museum
Why You Have To See It:
The Bronx Museum is a contemporary art museum that connects diverse audiences to the urban experience through its permanent collection, special exhibitions, and education programs. - Permanent Collection: The Museum’s permanent collection includes over 2,000 works of art, primarily by artists of African, Asian, and Latin American ancestry.

Practical Information:
- Admission: Admission is always free. Walk-ins are welcome. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Groups of more than 10 people require advanced requesting using their online form.
- Hours: The Museum is open from Wednesday to Sunday, 11 AM – 6 PM. It is closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
- Accessibility: All public areas of the Museum, including galleries and restrooms, are wheelchair accessible. Complimentary wheelchairs are available in the lobby area on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Safety: At this time, proof of vaccination is no longer required to visit the Museum. Face masks are suggested for visitors aged two years and older.
Visitor Policies:
- Bag Check: All bags are subject to security inspection before entering the Museum. Luggage is not permitted and cannot be stored at this time. Backpacks must be carried. Umbrellas are not permitted in the galleries and must be checked at the front desk.
- Photography: Photography is permitted unless otherwise noted. Videotaping, use of flash, selfie sticks, and tripods are prohibited.
- Sketching: Sketching is permitted in the galleries (pencil only, no ink or paint) with sketchbooks no larger than 8.5 x 11 inches (21.5 x 28 centimeters). Easels, stools, and sitting on the floor is not permitted. If galleries are crowded, guards may ask visitors to stop sketching or writing.

The Bronx Museum is located at 1040 Grand Concourse and is easily accessible by walking, biking, car, and public transportation. Paid parking is available across the street at 1020 Grand Concourse.
